Buttermilk Biscuits

Yield: 12-15 biscuits

These biscuits are great for deserts as well as meal time! Melt a bit of butter to pour over the top and drizzle with a bit of honey for a sweet treat. Serve them with fresh fruit and a dollop of whip cream. Eat them with stews or gravy, or simply have them alone.

Biscuits have so many great additions that its beneficial to keep them on hand all the time. Yes...they are that easy!

 4 cups Self Rising Flour
1/2 cups shortening
1 1/3 cups buttermilk or sour milk

Directions: -Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
-In a large bowl, add self rising flour
-cut your shortening up in smaller pieces and distribute the pieces evenly over flour.
-Work the flour and shortening together gently with your fingers until your mixture turns to a course crumbs texture.
-Finally, add your buttermilk to the mixture and gently work it through until you form a ball of dough.
***Try not to work the dough too much to keep it soft and flaky.
Dust your work surface and rolling pin with flour.
Roll out dough to desired thickness, and cut out with a biscuit cutter.
Shaped cutters such as hearts and stars are fun for the kids and lets not forget Valentines Day :)
***You can also just pat the dough out to the desired thickness if you don't have a rolling pin.
Place side by side on greased cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes until just golden!
